I simply just talk to my son about what MLK achieved during his lifetime and how he changed history and also about how badly people were treated before he became involved.

I always find books to read to my grandson about Martin Luther King and then we discuss how important he was to the Civil Rights movement and what he can do to keep his dream alive.

I’ve found that the best way to talk about civil rights is to make it personal. I like to tell the kids to imagine that they aren’t allowed to go to school with all of the other kids or they have to sit at the back of the bus even when they are there first. It really puts things into perspective and they seem to appreciate what a difference civil rights activists really made.
by explaining what he stood for.
you teach it the same way you teach any history mverno@roadrunner.com
We live near the Civil Rights Museum, so Im going to take them there when they are old enough to understand it.
Our kids are all grown now and successful in their fields. We always told them they could be anyone they truly wanted to be. It was all up to them and their motivation. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway.
We are a home schooling family and this DVD would help so much to educate our kids about such an important person in our country’s history. My kids are still pretty young (6 and 2) so we haven’t talked a whole lot about him. Mostly we get books out of the library and read them when my 6 year old will sit still. Not too often yet!
We set expectations, goals and rewards!
We look at how times have changed and what still needs to change.

I have been trying to raise the subject of Martin Luther King and also of black history month with my daughter, but I have not yet figured out how to do it. In fact, I have been looking for this DVD in the library, but they do not have it in yet, as I think this will be a very good start. She had heard of King, but only briefly, in a DVD she has called USAtoZ.
We talk about the Civil Rights movement. My daughter has a great interest. She reads books, search the internet and looks for movies about this subject.
