About THE KALLARI ASSOCIATION
The Kallari Association is a self-governed coalition of Amazon artists and organic cocoa producers. Our cooperative began in 1997 with less than fifty families and has now grown to over 850 families. Kallari has created sustainable income so Kichwa people can fulfill our basic family needs without logging our rainforests or selling our land. Our export of handcrafts has inspired the Kichwa youth to learn and practice traditional harvesting, dying, weaving and carving techniques. Just ten years ago, middlemen kept profits for themselves and set low prices for cocoa beans. Today Kallari communities sell as a single unit, ourleaders travel to Europe and North America to negotiate prices for our harvest. We have recently taken empowerment a step further: Kallari produces and sells gourmet organic fairly traded dark chocolate bars.
Review
Look cute colorful leaf on the cover of chocolate bar, what chocolates are you? Oh! those are Kallari Chocolate bars. I received three different varieties of chocolates. Kallari is a farmer’s cooperative made up of 850 indigenous Kichwa families that harvest and develop pure organic chocolates. All of the profits that you purchase from the intensely rich dark chocolate bars will automatically go to the needy people. You can enjoy your organic line of 3 different chocolates to support the Kichwa people for their sustainable development, health and education programs to preserve their backyard – the rainforest!
Each of the three single-source dark chocolate bars have an intense cocoa flavor balanced with hints of tropical fruits and citrus. The 70% bar is one that even milk chocolate purists will enjoy. It is dark yet sweet – reminiscent of Swiss Chocolate. Playing the part of Goldilocks in this tasting I found the 85% bar a bit to intense and the 70% much to sweet. Its retail value of each chocolate is $5.95
You can find Kallari Chocolate at Whole Food Stores throughout the U.S. or you can order online.

70% Cacao ~It’s blended with milk chocloate and the dark chocolate with a hint of sweetness!
75% Cacao ~ It’s not too sweet and has intensely flavor of cocoa in every bite!
85% Cocao ~ a mild sweetness seduces your taste buds with a buttery coat and tastes of passion fruit. It’s very dark chocolate for chocolate lovers like me. I tasted it with coffee and reminds me of having it with coffee in an exclusive resorts. Why can’t you try at home instead of ordering coffee with chocolate at the coffee bar?
